Emergence

Sculpture, intervention
Guelph, 2011

A handmade chrysalis and 200 handmade butterflies were suspended below the Heffernan St. bridge in downtown Guelph, along the Speed River. The chrysalis and butterflies were made from recycled paper that I made and embedded with native seeds, and both were hand stitched. This temporary piece was meant to degrade and seed the riverbank.

This piece is intended to make spectacular the often invisible labour that goes into pollination, stitching and other forms of hand labour.
